Introduction:
Rau IAS Study Circle in New Delhi is one of the renowned coaching centres. Candidates are prepared such that they can clear their CSE held annually by UPSC.
History:
In 1953, the Rau’s IAS Study Circle in New Delhi was established and commenced by Dr. S. Rau. Over six decades, year after year, this institute has toiled independently and produced successful high ranking IAS candidates. Presently, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Exam has been renamed as Civil Services Exam (CSE).
Faculties:

Courses offered:
Foundation Course:
- General Studies Integrated: Comprehensive classroom lessons are used to prepare candidates for both Prelim tests and Main Exams of CSE.
- Optional Subjects: Candidates get to select one optional subject for the Main Examination.
- Study Material: Study material published by the Study Circle is made such that candidates can concentrate on the relevant information. Also, they are able to focus on the required skills to clear the CSE the very first time.
Targeted Courses
- GS: Test Series:
- Intensive self-study and self assessment test series to understand what to expect during the actual UPSC exam. Also, candidates get to review their knowledge while answering these test series. Moreover, candidates learn management of time, pressure, and accuracy.
- GS: QIP & Test Series (Main): The exam series is targeted towards candidates who would be appearing for the upcoming Mains exam. The exam is extensive, highly focused to both classroom course and distance learning.
- Optional: Test Series (Mains): Highly targeted course that is suitable for candidates appearing for the Mains Exams of CSE.
- Interview Guidance: The main aim is to work on the personality as well as the knowledge of the candidate. Generally, the most significant point of the special interview is “you” as a candidate. • Shivam Narang (26 May 2018): The institute coaches candidates for the three levels of CSE including Prelim tests, Mains Examination, and Personality Interview. The faculties teach students from relevant study material while researchers guide them individually. The student-teacher ratio in a class is 80-90:1 and only 400 students per batch.
• Raj Oberoi (5th August 2017) was impressed by the institute’s unique coaching and teaching methods. Earlier, he had commented self-study at home is essential. The institute provides necessary study material that is taught by experienced and dedicated teachers. The mock tests help in assessing capabilities and improving weaknesses. The institute published FOCUS magazine helped in preparing for IAS exam.
Negative reviews:
• Anonymous (5th January 2018): Only 1/3 of Rau’s students pass IAS despite advertisements in the Hindu newspaper. One should compare details of students and with LBSNAA to find the truth.
• Vikas Jakhar (27th April 2016) Today’s Rau’s IAS Study Circle is not as good as it was in the 70-80s. Many students regret joining the institute. Also, he has not come across anyone in civil services who have graduated from the institute.

• The expert faculties complete the curriculum on time such that students can take several tests. Thereafter, taking levels of tests ensures students perform their best. Joining this institute would help in upgrading (28th December 2018).
• The faculties take trouble in daily preparing the DNS showing depths of the Hindu. Only after watching the DNS, the student learned to appreciate them and was thankful they were free of charge. (9th June 2018)
