Many Indian medical aspirants are not aware that the Philippines have some of the finest medical colleges in the world. The numbers of students from abroad who have become successful doctors studying at medical colleges in the Philippines are hundreds of thousands. A few of them passed out 25 years back and are practicing medicine in their respective fields.

The eligibility criterion for admission to a medical college in the Philippines:

There are no upper age limits in place for MBBS in the Philippines, but there is a lower age limit that must be adhered to. A student must complete 17 years on the 31st December for the year when he takes admission.

Each of the aspirants must have completed their higher secondary education with at least 50% marks across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The minimum qualifying marks are 50% in 10 + 2.

The qualifying entrance examination is NEET. With English as the medium of teaching, medical studies become easier to learn for the students. The admission initiates in August-September for each year. 

Admission Procedures:

For a medical college in the Philippines, the procedures for admission are basic and direct, which makes them simple.

An aspirant fills in the application form for the desired institute and mentions his points of interest. Following this, the medical college issues an offer letter if the aspirant is deemed eligible. 

The next step in line is to pay the fees for admission to the college. Thereafter, one applies for a Visa to study in the Philippines. 

It is then that one can book a ticket to fly to the Philippines to study medical science.

Documents to carry:

One must carry a passport which is valid for at least 18 months. Similarly, one must carry one’s mark sheet and certificate for the 10th and 12th. Also, take your birth certificate, 10 passport-sized photographs, and the official invitation letter that you received. Each of the documents must be authorized by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. They must also be legalized by the Philippines Embassy.

Other essential documents include the medical test documents and the bank receipt of the first year fee for a medical college in the Philippines. 

A few of the top associations with which medical colleges across the Philippines are affiliated include the ministry of Education in the Philippines, MCI or Medical Council of India, The WHO or World Health Organization, ECFMG, WFME, and FAIMER.

1. University of Santo Tomas

The programs offered are MD, Masters in clinical audiology and masters in pain management. Their worldwide ranking is in the 800-1000 bracket and ranking across Asia is 145. They have over 34,000 students. The cost of higher education is USD 3,000 yearly.

2. Ago Medical and Educational Center Bicol Christian College of Medicine

AMEC-BCCM is dedicated to empowering medical students to gain fine competence, along with professional standards of the highest standards. The focus also lies in developing the students’ leadership and communication skills. This empowers them to be a part of the medicare industry in the Philippines and across the world. 

Their students have holistic competencies and physicians that pass out from the institute have a global orientation. AMEC BCCM has several top medical programs, such as Doctor of dentistry and BSc in Radiology. The average fee is INR 12 lakhs and the courses characteristically last for 6.4 years. 3. AMA School of Medicine

AMA School of Medicine Philippines offers education at two college campuses, in Makati, right in the heart of Manila and Cavite. They’ve been operational since 2008.

The course duration is 6 years, a 2-year premedical course, BS followed by a 4 year MD course. The global ranking of the school is 17920. The language of imparting education is English and their academic session initiates in September. The college is approved by MCI, WHO, and CHED. The aid status is private. Their faculty is well trained and highly qualified. The total fee for the 6-year program is around 19,800.

4. Angeles University Foundation

The Angeles University Foundation is ranked 8th nationwide. AUF has highly qualified faculty. Many of their faculties have masters’ degrees or degrees in doctorate, or the law. 5. Ateneo de Zamboanga University

The Ateneo de Zamboanga University offers provisions for basic education, higher education, and professional education. Higher education includes the College of Nursing and professional education includes the School of medicine (SOM). They make medical professionals who dedicate themselves to the service of God and country. Their campus is elaborate. The university’s world ranking is 10066 and tuition fees are PHP 50,000 to 80,000.

6. Davao Medical School Foundation

DMSF is among the finest of medical colleges in the Philippines. They offer medical courses for below 8 lakhs a year. Not just MCI, but accreditation agencies such as CHED, ECFMG, FAIMER and WHO approves DMSF. They do not charge an initial donation either. The total fees come down to INR 19,500 for a medical course. The worldwide ranking is 17, 935 while the countrywide ranking is 128.

7. Cebu Institute of Medicine

CIM is located in uptown Cebu City. The produced only 32 graduates in 1962, but in 2013, the number of physicians they produced was 5162. Their medical education was classified in the level IV category in 1987. Their alumni have become best in the class doctors at all places in the world. The medical college is committed to working for the betterment of humanity. Their tuition fee is in the range of PH 20, 000 and 40, 000, and world ranking is 13,175. 

CIM is among the finest of medical colleges in the Philippines. It was established in 1957 but became a nonstock and nonprofit medical institution in 1966. 

8. EAC School of medicine

The EAC School of medicine was initially opened up in 2001 with only 24 enrollees. It started as an institution of health research and medical education. The scientific and educational environment provided within the university induces medical competence among students. The physicians who pass out are highly relevant at a social level while being compassionate. The institution also prides itself in a reformative approach towards medical education. They keep their syllabus for medical education updated, based upon the latest developments in medical science. The total tuition fees for EAC School of medicine in INR 14 lakh (approx.). Their countrywide ranking is 56 and the world ranking is 9016.

9. Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU)

Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) was founded in 1969. It is located in Dagupan City. It is located 230 km away from Manila Airport. There is AC bus connectivity, every 30 minutes. The university is full-grown and independent. Their academic and social competencies are commendable. They have 7000 medical students studying in varied faculties. Among them are 1800 are foreign students out of whom 250 are Indian students. Within the hostel-building are a safe mess and housing facilities. 10. Cagayan State University

CSU was set up in 1978. The first dean of CSU was Dr. Gilberto Gamez. He was from the faculty of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Santo Tomas and a nationally recognized neurologist-psychologist. Professional courses in the university followed, including Medical technology. Teaching faculty at the University is good. It is among the best colleges for advanced education. The campus has over the years received a facelift. They are known for their planning, training, and orientation, and have many Indian students. The fee for the medical course is INR 10, 88, 500. They are ranked 125 across the Philippines.

11. Central Philippine University

Central Philippine University College of Medicine offers courses in Health, Fitness and Lifestyle Management, Respiratory Therapy, and Doctor of Medicine. The university started with 17 students over a century ago in 1905. Now they have over 12,000 enrolled students. They had gained University status in 1953. The University is ranked 28th across the Philippines. 

12. De La Salle Health Sciences Institute

De La Salle University Medical Center is recognized quality and holistic medical care. It is the first college across the Philippines to be awarded an ISO certification. De La Salle Angelo King Medical Research Center is known for its finest medical research over national health concerns such as dengue, TB and cancer. They have received level-3 accreditation, the highest accreditation level granted by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board. They conduct studies for the FDA. The institute specializes in integrative and evidence-based complementary medications. Presently they have enrolled 3,000 medical students and their countrywide ranking is 90. Their fees vary in between PHP 110,000 to 130,000 yearly for a bachelor’s degree and between PHP 34,000-60,000 for a Master’s degree.

13. St. Luke’s college of medicine

St. Luke’s college of medicine is a college at St. Luke’s Medical center, which is also the first JCIA accredited hospital in the Philippines. 14. Iloilo Doctors’ College

They offer courses in several sciences related to the profession. The students find development at physical, intellectual and spiritual levels at the university. The fee for medical education is INR 1.5 crore approx. and countrywide ranking of the college across the Philippines is 177. 

15. Mindanao State University

Mindanao State University offers a bachelor's course in nursing. MD is also offered by the university. MSU College of medicine was started for the academic year 1984-85. This was initially for the medically depressed region of Minsupala, an island in the Philippines. They have made many fine doctors from students of Minsupala. Many render services in Minsupala itself. MSU College of medicine is now located in Iligan City. A number of these competent medical practitioners are now academicians. The alumnus is frequently a part of specialty boards. They have 6 hospitals in the university campus. They also offer internship and residency training programs. Medical research is also one of its prime focus areas. Their fee is lower compared to other institutions. Per semester fees for BS nursing is 9000 pesos. Fees for bachelor's and master's courses are both in line with USD 1,000. Their countrywide ranking is 91 while world ranking is 9792.
