MCI is an acronym of the Medical Council of India. It is a statutory board that has been established to maintain standards in medical education. It focuses on promoting and maintaining excellence in medical education. MCI has certain standards, and every institute present in India makes sure to follow it. But what about foreign countries? There are a lot of students who want to pursue MBBS in foreign countries like Russia. The main reason for mentioning Russia here is because it is the most preferred destination for MBBS among so many students.
How can MCI ensure that students get the right education in foreign countries? It conducts a test for all the students who have completed their MBBS abroad, and this screening test will help in evaluating the performance of students. If students fail this screening test, then they won’t be allowed to practice medicine in India. There is another thing that students have to know about this test. Every student who attends a foreign country university is not eligible for MCI. The students must study in an MCI approved college only.
MCI checks the university standards and then approves them for students. If any college isn’t approved by MCI, then the students who completed their MBBS there are not eligible to attend MCI screening test, and hence they cannot practice in India.
There are a total of 57 universities in Russia for MBBS and 54 out of them are approved by MCI. Students who have completed their education in these universities are eligible for higher education as well as they can practice MBBS in reputed hospitals.

Usually, in Indian colleges, the parents have to pay donations or capitation fees apart from tuition fees, and this is one of the main issues that most of parents face too. This is not the case in Russia. There is no need for paying any amount in the form of donations in Russian Universities. Students have to pay the tuition fee only, and that too is subsidized by the government. This way, a lot of financial burdens are reduced for the parents and students will be able to get the best Education without worrying about their financial status.
Parents of the students have to worry about tuition fees alone, but the best part is that the government subsidizes this tuition fee too. Government of Russia provides a subsidy of 70 percent in the tuition fee, which makes it easy for the parents to pay. The average tuition fee starts at 2-3 lacs in a university and can extend up to 8 lacs too. This is quite affordable for MBBS. When compared to Indian colleges, the Russian Universities have very fewer fees, and with government subsidy, MBBS became affordable to everyone without worrying about the financials.
The government of Russia also issues a lot of scholarships for the students. The students have to fit in the eligibility criteria, and if it is fulfilled, students will get good financial aid too.
Russia is not as costly as America or Europe. The lifestyle here can be quite affordable. Students can live with as low as 100 USD to 300 USD per month. This means that they can live with approximately 6500 INR to 21,000 or 22,000 USD which indeed is quite affordable. However, the cost of living is impacted by various factors.
The university that students are studying in, the locality, lifestyle of a student, etc. Depending upon these factors, the student's cost of living can be decided. There are various ways to cut down the costs in Russia.
There is no entrance test for the students who are applying for MBBS in Russia. If they are eligible, they can apply for the seat directly. The universities follow a first-come, first-serve basis. However, Indian students have to clear the NEET exam, according to MCI. The students should score 40% of marks (SC/ST/OBC) and 50% of marks (unreserved candidates). Then only they will get the clearance certificate. But for the students from other countries, there is no need for any entrance test. The students should get more than 50% in their 12th standard in Biology, Physics and Chemistry stream.
As said, students who completed their MBBS abroad should pass the MCI screening test to get a chance to practice in India. Russian Universities understand the importance of this MCI screening test. Hence, they have added MCI screening tests in their curriculum. Russia is the only country where students get MCI coaching along with their MBBS course. There is no additional cost for this and students will be equipped with enough knowledge to crack this test.
