History

The university was originally established as the "School of Fine Arts by Osman Hamdi Bey in 1882, making it one of the oldest educational institutions dedicated to the arts in Turkey. It has undergone several transformations and name changes over the years, and it was named Mimar Sinan University in 1982, in honor of the 400th anniversary of the death of the great Ottoman architect Sinan.
