Persian Gulf University (PGU) is located in Bushehr, Iran, and was founded in 1991. Originally named "Bushehr University," it was established to address the need for higher education in the southern region of Iran, especially in technical and engineering fields related to the country's coastal and marine industries.
In 1996, the name was changed to Persian Gulf University to reflect the significance of its location near the Persian Gulf, a region of strategic and economic importance. Over the years, PGU expanded its academic offerings beyond engineering and now includes a variety of programs in science, humanities, and social sciences.
The university plays a key role in regional development, particularly in areas such as marine technology, petroleum engineering, and environmental studies. PGU's proximity to important industrial and energy sectors makes it a hub for research and development in these fields.
Today, Persian Gulf University is one of the leading institutions in Iran's southern region, known for its contributions to research, education, and its collaboration with local industries.
