Dhaka National Medical College is a private medical college in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The College was established in 1994. It was acquired from its forerunner- The Dhaka National Medical Institute, which was then situated near Bahadur Shah Park. The Dhaka National Medical Institute was established in 1925 as a part of the Non-cooperation movement of the Indian Sub-continent against the Britishers initiated by the Indian National Congress (INC) and Indian Muslim League (IML). Now, the College is considered one of the Leading Medical colleges in Bangladesh.
Dhaka National Medical College is running according to the rules and regulations set by the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The College is recognized and accredited by various medical directorates. Presently, DNMC has a brand-new eleven-story educational building with all the essential facilities. Students get complete training from the high-class hospital set up during the course. The University provides well-equipped labs for specialization courses. Moreover, the Library of Dhaka National Medical College is among the best libraries in Bangladesh. This entire collection of the library plays a role as the backbone for all the research and development activities of the college and it also helps students in their education. The graduates of Dhaka National Medical College are eligible to take the United States Medical License Examinations (USMLE). Also, they are eligible for limited registration with the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom.
The Medical College offers a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from Dhaka University, both having a course duration of five years. Both these course programs are recognized by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). On passing the final professional examination, a compulsory one-year internship is there. The medicine course in Bangladesh is divided into 3 phases, namely pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical phases. A 6-month semester system is followed for these course programs. The medium of teaching for both programs is English.
The College has a large campus for the students. It has a 650-bed multidisciplinary hospital complex, corresponding to the academic building. The campus has an excellent Library, established in 1994. It has rich collections of Medical books and Journals to meet the requirements of medical students and teachers of various disciplines. There is a comfortable room as a separate space in the Library with multimedia for the teachers and medical officers for reading and research work. A decent computer network and internet facility are also there for the students.
For the student accommodation, there is a total of 229 rooms & 365 seats in the boys' hostel & 93 rooms & 282 seats in the girls' hostel. Boys hostels are Hazi Selim building, Hazi Masum building, Idris Ali building, Sajjad H. Titu building & Sheikh Russel International Hostel, and girls hostel is the Abu Khayer building & College building. Also, the College has a well-equipped canteen with modern furniture, where hygienic and healthy food is available for students.
DNMC offers a safe and calm environment for the students to study. The Library staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and devoted to assisting the students and teachers and providing the best services to them. Also, the College has well-furnished hostels for both male and female students separately. The hostels are under 24*7 CCTV surveillance to ensure tight security. All kinds of facilities for the students are available in the hostels. The meals are cooked by the authorized male/female cook according to the student’s choice for boys and girls hostel. TV facilities are available in the dining room of the hostels. The facility of central heating and cooling along with laundry facilities are available at the hostels. The essential furniture for comfortable housing, such as chairs, tables, cupboards, etc., is also provided for all students.
Along with remarkable academic activities, the college administration also shows an equal level of interest in organizing cultural activities for the recreation of the students.
