Medical College for Women and Hospital (MCW&H) is a private medical school in Bangladesh that is exclusively for educating women. Presently, the Medical College has two academic campuses, the main campus is located in Uttara, and a subsidiary campus is in Uttarakhand both are in Dhaka. Medical College for Women and Hospital was established in 1992 by a group of people known as the founder members. Their main aim was to provide quality medical education, research, and services to the people of Bangladesh at an affordable cost. Noticeably, a 500-bedded hospital is affiliated with the College, and the hospital and the College both are under the governance of a non-political and non-profitable organization - The Medical & Health Welfare Trust. The College is affiliated with the Dhaka University as a constituent college. The College is one of the oldest private medical institutes for women in Bangladesh.
Medical College for Women & Hospital is a Non-Government Organization. The institute was essentially established to aid the mobilization of resources for health manpower development, and for solving national problems through basic and applied research, and by encouraging self-reliance in the women population. For providing top-tier medical education to the students, the College has employed full-time dedicated, qualified, and efficient faculty members, doctors, and staff whose chief purpose is to provide quality medical education to students that are selected according to the government procedure. The faculty members follow modern methods of teaching, reflected in the excellent results of this Medical College.
The Medical College for Women and Hospital, Dhaka presently offers an MBBS course program under the affiliation of the University of Dhaka - Faculty of Medicine. This course involves four and half years of academic study and then one year of clinical Internship. On completion of the 4.5 years program, the one-year Internship is compulsory for all the graduates. There are three phases of this MBBS study, namely pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical phases. The first phase involves two years study duration about Integrated basic medicine & community medicine. The second phase teaches several domains like forensic, surgery, etc. The last phase teaches subjects like orthopedics, dentistry, emergency medicine, etc. The course is taught in the English language.
The Medical College For Women and Hospital campus is situated in Uttara Model Town, Dhaka. The College has an air-conditioned library, well equipped with modern books and periodicals. Also, the library has IT resources and a WiFi facility. All the departments are well-equipped with essential facilities. For student accommodation, two well-furnished hostels are there with all the basic amenities. The hostel has air-conditioning system and Internet (WiFi) facilities. Other facilities at the hostel premises include a gymnasium, common rooms, dining halls, and playground. The College, Hostel, and Hospital are all located in the same complex. So, there is a sense of security and privacy in the students during their stay. A lot of shops are there in the campus vicinity to purchase daily need items.
The Medical College For Women and Hospital has a lively and comfortable environment. Various cultural, sports activities and events are organized on the campus to keep the students mentally and physically fit. Moreover, all Indian national festivals are celebrated on the campus to make sure that the students stay connected to their roots and they don’t miss out on festivities while studying for their MBBS degree in Bangladesh. The students are involved in social and cultural activities by participating in annual picnics, study tours, Bangla New Year celebration, post-Eid get-together, Felicitation ceremonies for top-achievers, and much more.
The College offers safe and comfortable accommodation for all international students. All the students have to stay in the College hostel only. The rooms are allotted on a twin-sharing basis. All the hostel rooms are fully furnished, with a central cooling and heating system. The hostel also offers laundry facilities. Notably, Indian food is available to the students at the mess at subsidized rates.
