The MBBS program at the Birat Medical College has a course duration of 5.5 years which is typical for any MBBS degree in Nepal. The entire tenure of 5.5 years is however divided into two major stages. The initial 4.5 years of the course is an integrated program dedicated to the study of basic sciences and community medicine. However, the ultimate 1 year of the program strictly constitutes compulsory internship training at hospitals and health centers for the successful implementation of clinical knowledge gathered during the former years. Apart from this segregation of the MBBS program, it is separated into three distinct phases. The first phase takes up the first and the second year of the program when clinical subjects like Microbiology, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, anatomy, etc are taught. The second phase of the program continues for the following year when forensic medicine, surgery, applied epidemiology, family health, internal medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, and similar subjects are studied. The third phase constitutes the last 1.5 years featuring the study of subjects like orthopedic, ENT, accident and emergency medicine, psychiatry, ophthalmology, dentistry, anesthesiology, radiology, etc.
