Devdaha Medical College (DMCRI)

The Devdaha Medical College which is also famous as Devdaha Medical College and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd is another icon in the arena of medical colleges in Nepal. This institution is situated at Butwal in the western part of Nepal which is a busy commercial center. Alongside a medical college providing quality medical education to students, the DMCRI is also a research institute packed with all modern pieces of equipment and adept professionals. Apart from this, the DMCRI is provided with a 400 bedded hospital facility dedicated not only to the clinical study of students but also to enable patients to receive the highest possible quality of treatment. The different departments at the DMCRI teaching hospital seeing to the needs of patients include an O.P.D. the department, indoor department, Emergency department, O.T. department, and Administration department. The DMCRI has its affiliation to Kathmandu University. The institute is acknowledged by both the Medical Councils of Nepal and India. This college is keen on producing medical personnel of the highest caliber in terms of meeting national and international standards. In order to gain acceptance at this institute, a student is required to meet a few standard eligibility criteria. These are –

  • The age limit of students must be within 17 – 25 years.

  • The 10+2 board examination must be taken under the banner of a recognized board.

  • A minimum of 50% must be scored in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English for general while 40% marks in the same are required for SC/ST/OBC quota students.

  • Qualifying marks in the NEET examination are mandatory.

A student is not expected to appear for the TOEFL test or any other English fluency test. The fee structure at the DMCRI is affordable for most middle-class Indian parents and posses no hidden expense. The documentation procedure during admission is also comparatively easier.

The MBBS course at the Devdaha Medical College resembles other medical colleges and universities across Nepal in terms of duration and curriculum. A standard span of time amounting to 5.5 years is required for the accomplishment of the degree. This time is bifurcated into the actual course duration of 4.5 years featuring the study of integrated basic sciences, community medicine, and specialized clinical disciplines followed by a compulsory 1-year internship at hospitals and health centers for problem-oriented learning. The initial 4.5 years of the program are further divided into three phases where different clinical subjects are given attention to. The first phase of the program stresses the Pre Clinical subjects or the basic sciences, the second phase which is longer features the study of Para Clinical and Clinical subjects, and the third phase which is the longest yet mainly constitutes the study of clinical subjects. After the completion of the compulsory internship training, many students of the DMCRI are absorbed into its teaching hospital.

Both the male and female students at DMCRI are granted separate hostels on campus. These hostels are assigned on single occupancy and sharing basis. The hostel rooms are well furnished and provided with basic amenities dedicated to creating a comfortable life for its students.
