Kathmandu Medical College

The Kathmandu Medical College was set up in the year of 1997 and is counted among the best colleges for studying medicine in Nepal. As the name suggests the college is located in Kathmandu which is the capital of Nepal. The college operates under the affiliation of Kathmandu University. The Kathmandu Medical College which is popular as KMCTH is a widely recognized institute bearing the approval of several national and international bodies like the Medical Council of Nepal, General Medical Council (UK), Sri Lankan Medical Council, and the Medical Council of India (MCI). The Duwakot Basic Sciences and the Sinamangal Clinical Sciences are the two separate campuses from where the institute promptly operates from. This college has been acknowledged by the World Health Organization (WHO) by enlisting it to the World Directory of Medical Schools functional from June of 2001. The seat of authority as principal at this college is held by Prof. Dr. Chandra Karki who is a famous Gynecologist and Obstetrician op Nepal and also the former Departmental Head of Gynecology and Obstetrics of KMCTH and President of Nepal Society of obstetricians and gynecology. The institute also bears a nod of approval from the NMC by making it to the list of International Medical Education Directory (IMED). The college possesses the designation of Associate Member of the Network of Community Based Medical Schools (headquarter at Ghent, Belgium) which adds to the glory of the institute.

 

All there is to know about the Course Programme

The MBBS course at the Kathmandu Medical College begins in August or September of an academic year. Though not compulsory, students are accepted at this prestigious college through the ILETS examination. The course is designed following the strict guidelines of Kathmandu University and Nepal Medical Council. The duration of the course is a standard of 4.5 years after which internship training of 1 year is mandatory. The major subjects of focus at the initial stage of the program are basic sciences, interdepartmental integration, and clinical and community correlation. Postgraduate courses like MD/ MS in Medicine, Pediatric, Gyane/Obs, Surgery, etc. can be accomplished at the university from the year 2003. Other than these BDS and B.Sc Nursing is also taught here. The alumni of this college pass the eligibility criteria for California Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL) or a Physicians or Surgeons Certificate as well.

The Dwankot Basic Sciences and the Sinamangal Clinical Sciences are both functional campuses of the Kathmandu Medical College.
