Tourism has flourished very well in this beautiful nation but its education has not been left behind. MBBS course which is very popular among the students from science faculty is offered by the education system of Nepal for local as well as abroad students. If Indian students are looking for pursuing MBBS from an abroad nation then there is no need for them to search far and wide and cross the horizons to receive the best education. The dream can be fulfilled within the continent and by crossing just a short distance. The answer for today’s search lies in their very neighboring country, Nepal.
Nepal is currently one of the most famous destinations for Indian students to pursue MBBS. There is the high level of competition for students to secure seats in the MBBS course among the top universities of Nepal. A student need not limit thoughts about Nepal to the beautiful sceneries but should also explore the wonderful education provided by the nation in MBBS. While thinking about Nepal as a destination for the MBBS course various questions can arise in the mind of a student. Below given are a few frequent questions that might arise in a student’s mind before going to study MBBS in Nepal:-
Students looking to pursue MBBS from abroad Nations will definitely look for universities that are well recognized by international bodies such as WHO, MIC, UNESCO etc. This is to ensure that the quality of education provided by these Universities is up to the mark and will not let you down when students apply for jobs. The education system of Nepal ensures that there is a proper balance of practical as well as theoretical skills in a student and the syllabus is designed accordingly for students of MBBS. The course is a real test of practical skills and during the time of learning a student needs to be very attentive towards their practical skills as it is very important in the long run while practicing in professional life. Hence, Nepal provides a 6-year course of MBBS with one year of the internship included which would give good hands-on education and practical skills to its students and which will be helpful in the longer run.
MBBS from Nepal is very cheap as compared to other Western Nations. The cost is very affordable by most of the middle-class families of India who dream of getting their children to pursue education from abroad Nations. The best part about pursuing MBBS from universities of Nepal is that most of the universities allow payment of fees in installments making it easier for the families to pay fees. The installment system for payment of fees is very helpful as it gives time for the families to pay partly by raising money. It does not create financial issues in the student’s family and the students do not have to worry about the financial stress that is usually created in the family if any of the family members is pursuing education from abroad nation and especially if the course is an expensive one like MBBS.
Universities of Nepal provide one of the best qualities of education to its students at very reasonable prices. The approximate fees of one year of MBBS course is between 8 to 10 lakh rupees which are far lower than other Western Nations. These rates are very convenient as compared to not only the abroad Nations but also the private medical colleges of India.
The Indian students can complete their MBBS course from the Universities of Nepal without much pressure of documentation and other legal procedures. This is because Visa is not required for Indian students to study in Nepal. While going for education in an abroad nation, the processing of documents and getting a visa for education becomes one of the major problems for the students. It is a lengthy process and students usually get under stress during this process of official work. But on the other hand, students willing to pursue MBBS from Nepal don’t get stressed at all as the process is easier as compared to all other abroad nations and the best thing is that no Visa is required by the students to study MBBS in Nepal.
The exams such as TOFEL and IELTS are compulsory for foreign students to pursue MBBS from America, Europe, and other western countries. This becomes a bit of an issue for Indian students who are having Basic English with not much high English proficiency. However, for students willing to persuade MBBS from Nepal, any English proficiency exam is not required. This is very good as students don’t need to prepare for extra exams and this can save extra effort and time.

Hostels have always been the first choice for parents who are sending their children out for education. The hostels here provide various necessary amenities to the students with free Wi-Fi 24/7.

The MBBS course degree from either Medical Institutes in Nepal will be considered valid only after the student qualifies for the MCI screening test now NEXT Exam. This test is taken by those students who have finished their 5.5 years in MBBS and wish to practice in India. Introduced in the year 2002, MCI Examination is a mandatory test for all the students who have received their MBBS from foreign institutes.
Below listed are 5 significant elements of the MCI examination:
It is a compulsory test for any students, who have acquired their MBBS degree from international medical institutes. It permits them to practice medical science in the Indian nation; it is a necessary qualification for their career in India. After the student clears this test, she/he will be placed equal to those who have attained MBBS from Indian universities.
MCI Screening test is performed for evaluating the knowledge of fundamental concepts, basic knowledge, practical application, and time management abilities of the candidate. The test might not cover all aspects of the MBBS course and studies. But it will ask questions regarding the key conceptualization of the medical information.
Following the successful clearance of the MCI test, the candidate will have to undertake an internship for a year to fit the eligibility specifications. If the student does not pass the exam, they will be left with an MBBS degree and no job scope.
There are no limitations for the attempt count the student takes to clear the exam. The student must score a minimum of 50% marks to pass the MCI Screening Test. And the students, who make the exam, can apply to the State Medical Council or Medical Council of India for their permanent enrollment.
Clearing the MCI test is a difficult task for the students since it requires a lot of training and practice. Out of all the candidates appearing for the exam, only 19% get through; as per average calculations. The statistics also say that since 2005, there has been a drop in MCI clearance.
The students, who are aiming at getting MBBS education and degree from reputed Medical Colleges, should know and be prepared with the financial support they will need during their stay and study. It is slightly difficult for some parents to arrange for the tuition and accommodation fee altogether. Since the students don’t earn themselves, their only option for getting in top universities is Student Loan.
The Eligibility criterion for students to apply for student loans is :
The applicant should be an Indian citizen
The age of the applicant should be at least 18 years; the parents will have to take a loan on their behalf.
The candidate should have a good scholastic backdrop
The applicant should get accepted in an accredited international institution, college or university
The course should be professional or technical; financers prefer courses that ensure job after completion
Parents should make a detailed budget and funds for the children; estimating the total charge can help you prepare cautiously. The budget should cover all expenses ranging from tuition fees, accommodation charges, health, travel, overhead costs, etc. Also, parents should consult with their children on the monthly allowances, so that there is no risk of going overboard with expenditures.
While studying in Nepalese universities might be ‘a dream come true’ moment for many aspirants, it does have a few disadvantages that come with it. Students might find it difficult in adjusting to the new locality and education pattern. Below mentioned are the top few cons of studying MBBS in Nepal:
With proper English education, the students can find it hard to understand certain concepts since few faculties may have bad English speech and irregular accent
During their internships, the international students are not permitted to touch the patients, therefore it becomes only observe and learn situation for the candidates
There is an absence of opportunities for gaining experience in performing surgical operations on real bodies since the system only uses dummies for education purposes
All foreign students must learn the regional language for their additional subject
NEXT or the National Exit Test is the exam that MBBS holders, from international colleges, have to clear for obtaining a License for practicing in India. If the student takes and passes the exam they can successfully give their career as a medical practitioner a proper route. Clearing NEXT can also enable the student for postgraduate courses in India. Its necessity for qualification as a practitioner or PG student has led to an increase in its value. Numerous online and brick & mortar coaching classes provide effective guidance to the aspirants.
With every successful year, hundreds and more of students finished their MBBS course with practical experience by internship. All these students have to appear for NEXT and MCI tests to become qualified practitioners of the nation. It also permits them to go for additional education like postgraduation; although only a few students out of the thousands get eligible for the MD and MS courses.
Other than PG admissions for medical students, there are so many new changes that have affected the admission procedure. The requirement of NEET for postgraduate courses is made compulsory, and all candidates are accepted through entrance tests only. Most students are not able to pass the NEET for postgraduation and miss their opportunity to get a specialization degree.
Indian students who wish to do MBBS from Nepal and practice in the USA have a wide scope of getting a job. After clearing the further set of tests, you will have to clear the USMLE exam to be a licensed medical practitioner in America. There are various steps in this, step one is dedicated to medical basics, concepts, medicine, principles, and functioning. In this 1-day examination, which is split up into 7 blocks of one hour each, the students will be evaluated during this 8-hour session.

Comfortable footgear and footwear: A person cannot sit idle on weekends when there is so much to explore in Nepal. Therefore, you should pack a comfortable pair of sports shoes or hiking shoes (if you are planning to climb a few hills). Never forget normal slippers, they are must-have items.

Screen against Sun: It is a general mistake, which people make, by thinking that since Nepal is a cold region, the sun won’t be a problem. But it’s scientifically proven that due to higher altitude, skin gets sunburns and other problems when exposed to UV rays in cold regions as well. Clothes: With varying temperatures, you have to make sure you have enough jackets and sweaters to keep you safe from the cold. Ensure that you have warm jackets, windbreakers, socks, and thermal wear with you along with other winter garments. Since Nepal experiences heavy monsoon, you must have a raincoat, umbrella or another protective cover to stay dry and safe during this time. Also, the clothing choice should be decent; the resident culture is simple and down to earth.
Personal Hygiene: Make sure that you have packed all your toiletries properly so that you don’t have to rush around when you reach there. Pack hand sanitizers, insect repellents, shampoos, moisturizers, etc. - these are basic essentials to keep with you so that you stay healthy and safe in a new location.
Activated Charcoal and Medicines: Not being overcareful, with the increasing number of antibodies, you should stay healthful while trying to adapt. Living in a new environment brings new climate, physical challenges, foods, etc. One must have a separate medicine pack with them to prevent any misadventure. This pack should contain medicines related to basic health problems and any specific ones in needed.
Document Folder: Travelling to a new nation for getting an educational qualification, you must have all your documents and certificates ready, for any emergent needs. This folder should contain original and photocopies of your mark sheets, passport, admission-related documents, Visa papers, and any other document that might come in useful. It will keep your papers organized and secure.
Backpack and Tools: Nepal is a mountainous region, and all visitors are tempted to go for hiking and trekking at least once when they are here. Numerous young students come here to study and visit the nearby hills and mountains with their peers. To stay safe while any such excursion, you should carry with you a backpack that has space for all needed requirements. Items like :
